Modwen

Offline AI meeting transcription and notes, on your own computer

Modwen records your meetings, transcribes them with Whisper and writes the summary, decisions and action items with a local language model. All of it runs on your Mac or Windows PC. No cloud, no account, no subscription.

Free and open source (Apache-2.0)

Questions

Does it work without internet?

Yes. After the one-time model download, Modwen transcribes and writes notes with the internet turned off.

Which AI model writes the notes?

By default Qwen3, run by llama.cpp, which Modwen downloads and starts for you. You can also connect any OpenAI-compatible server on your computer: Ollama, LM Studio, llama.cpp or vLLM.

What computer do I need?

16 GB of memory at least. Best: an Apple Silicon Mac with 32 GB, or a Windows PC with an NVIDIA graphics card (12 GB or more).

Can it use a cloud AI like ChatGPT?

No, by design. Only AI servers on your own machine are accepted, so your audio and transcripts never leave it.
